about

Franz Hautzinger: trumpet
Mazen Kerbaj: trumpet

----

This was my second album ever, and my first "trumpet project" of many to come. It was also my first meeting with Franz Hautzinger who is still a very close friend and collaborator to date (my other released projects with him are "Oriental Space" and "Ariha Brass Quartet").
This duo session took place less than a year after our surrealistic first encounter in Lebanon (I still have to put that in writing one day); I was quite stressed to record with one of my trumpet heroes, and on the way to the studio Franz told me how he himself was stressed to record his duo with Derek Bailey some years before. He recalled Bailey saying to him after an hour or so of recording: "I think we have enough music for the album". They stopped there, and later released all the pieces with no further selection or cuts. We smiled about this quite challenging and radical posture from one the old timers of free improv.
Later that day, after 50 minutes in the studio, Franz looked at me and said: "I think we have enough music for the album".
