The "A" Trio has often worked on collaborations with other musicians and groups. Two of these collaborations have already been released on albums ("Beach Party at Mirna el Chalouhi" with Lebanese punk rock band Scrambled Eggs and "Burj al Imam" with American folk rock UFO Alan Bishop). This third instalment documents the trio encounter with one of the most influential free improv bands of all time, the pioneering AMM.
The meeting happened in August 2015, for my first concert organised by the DAAD residency program, one month after i moved to Berlin. The night was planned in three parts of roughly 20 to 35 minutes each (AMM / "A" Trio / AMM + "A" Trio) in the beautiful St. Elisabeth Kirche in the Mitte district, and the festival had the means – and the will! – to make it happen in the best way possible: they provided us full access to the church on the night before, with the entire sound team, to make the setup and the soundcheck for the next day. We actually didn't need more than a couple of hours to have everything ready so I proposed to everyone (musicians, festival and sound engineer) to record a longer piece on that "rehearsal" night since the concert timing was limited.
It is this first encounter between the two bands that you can hear on this album; the piece is of course completely improvised, and it started so abruptly and spontaneously that you can hear the sound engineer still chatting with one of us a couple of seconds after the beginning.
